We are less than four weeks away from my due date, which means we are taking every opportunity we can to spend quality time with Blaire while she’s still our only baby. Luckily, we’ve had patches of nice weather and getting outside to the park has always been one of our favorite things to do together. So we’ve taken advantage of it, especially on the weekends.

Blaire isn’t picky. She’s happy to go down the slide 1000x, climb the rock walls, swing, or just blow bubbles. At this point in my pregnancy, blowing bubbles and swinging are my two favorites. It’s just much easier to keep up with her when we’re doing these things and it’s less scary than her scaling the rock walls or making her way up the tall slides. ;) So before nap time, we spent some time running around, blowing bubbles and hanging out at a park close to home. Blaire was so excited to try out a new set of bubbles she got for her birthday last weekend, so she had a blast!

I’ve been asking mamas for tips on making the transition to a big sister easier on Blaire and I’ve gotten SO many great tips. Here are my top 4. (You can read all of them on this Instagram post.)
- Help them prepare for baby. We took Blaire to a “big sister” class. She learned how to handle babies gently, what to expect when she comes to the hospital to meet baby brother, how to feed the baby a bottle and more. She’s been obsessed with baby dolls forever, so we practice on them a lot.
- Have a gift for your older child at the hospital when they come to meet their new sibling. Bonus points if it’s something they’ve REALLY been wanting. They’ll have something new to take home to keep them busy while you’re at the hospital and they’ll always remember what their new sibling got for them.
- Make one-on-one time a priority with your older child. Yes, your new baby will need you. But so does your first baby! Blaire is definitely my little bestie and I look forward to sneaking off for Target dates with her when Jason gets home from work in the evening. One mama on Instagram said she made sure to keep books close by, throughout the day, so she could read to her son any time she was nursing her new babe.
- Don’t expect perfection. She may love the new baby or she may ignore him… or she may do both, depending on the day. In the end, everything will happen in God’s time, so we’re just going to give ourselves grace and pray for the best.
