I knew I wanted to do a rainbow theme for Sloane’s first birthday party since she’s our rainbow baby. Things are still so different with Covid so we didn’t throw a huge first birthday party like we did with Blaire and Ben. Our usual birthday parties were lunch with family in the afternoon and then pizza friends for dinner. So instead we did pizza for lunch with our close family (our parents, siblings/significant others, and my grandparents). There were less than 20 of us and it was still so much fun to celebrate our girl with those who love her the most. And since we weren’t spending as much on food… I decided to do more decorations than I normally do. ;) Below I’m sharing all of the things we did to make Sloane’s Ranbow First Birthday Party special.
Smash Cake & Cupcakes
I made her smash cake and we ordered cupcakes for everyone else, which seemed like the 2020/Covid thing to do. I made the cupcake toppers with the help of my Cricut Joy machine. I used the machine to cut out the designs (white circles, rainbows and 1s) and then I used a glue stick to glue the designs onto each circle, then taped them to toothpicks. I also used the Joy to cut out the word “One” for her cake topper. Total Cost: $4.50
Rainbow Balloon Arch
I bought a balloon strip from Party City for $3.99. I bought packages of balloons from Dollar Tree (red, yellow, and white), Hobby Lobby (pink), and from Party City (Caribbean blue and Lavender). Dollar Tree also has packages of rainbow-colored balloons if you want all bright, traditional colors. You might need to use two packages of them, but it would only be $2 in balloons (vs. $1.50/pack at Hobby Lobby and $2.50/pack at Party City).
Total Cost: $13
wood Bead & Tassle Garland
I bought a pom pom/tassel maker last year when I was DIYing our Christmas stockings. I used that and some yarn I grabbed at Michael’s to make the tassels. Then I strung them on whatever string I found around our house (lol) with these wooden beads I also grabbed at Michael’s.
Total Cost: $10
