Holy moly! We are over half way to meeting this baby and I am so excited! Ben was born at 38W3D, so that is only 16ish weeks from now.

How far along: 22 weeks

Total weight gain: 2lbs… I guess you don’t need to gain much right away when you’re still holding onto 10lbs from each of your previous babies…

Movement: All the time! I LOVE it! Just this last week it has gone from feeling just the movements to actually feeling sharp jabs and kicks. Jason and Blaire were even able to feel!

Mood: Emotional! Blaire had her last day of preschool a few weeks ago so I was a mess.

Food cravings: Candy!

Gender:  It’s a GIRL! I can’t really believe it since both the Sneak Peak test and the 15 week ultrasound told us it was a boy. But fast forward to our 20 week ultrasound and two technicians swear they were 100% sure this baby is a girl.

Sleep: So every night I say I need to wash the cover on my maternity pillow and I haven’t yet, because, well, I haven’t really been doing much laundry. Lol! I know I would probably sleep better with it. But honestly my sleep isn’t THAT terrible. It’s funny how well you can sleep when you have two kids and are always exhausted! ha

Highlight of the Week: Seeing Ms. (or gosh, Mr. still maybe?) in the 20 week ultrasound a few weeks ago. And these movements are my highlights for the past few weeks.

Miss Anything: My sinuses have been horrible (I blame the weather) and I just miss being able to take medicine to help.

Symptoms: Some pain in the tops of my legs (my veins, I think?) and round ligament pain that occasionally stops me in my tracks. Thankfully it only happens once a day, sometimes even less. Some swelling in my hands and feet, which is normal for me during the summer since I am TERRIBLE at drinking water.

Looking forward to: Well I had already gone through Ben’s size newborn and 3 month clothing to figure out what we need… so now I guess I’m looking forward to digging out Blaire’s, too!

Okay, so sharing more about our whole “We thought we were having a boy and now we think we’re having a girl” scenario:

YES, we were SO shocked when she wrote the word GIRL up on the screen. We just spent that last 5 weeks talking to this baby boy, thinking of names, etc. I was so shocked I didn’t really say anything. Jason said we were told it was a boy. The ultrasound was instantly confused. So I tried to clarify that we had the blood test, but not the Panorama through the doctor’s office, just the Sneak Peak finger poke one at home, so yes, we knew it could be a “false” Male positive, which is why I went to Chicago for an independent ultrasound later that same week (I was 15W3D) and there they “confirmed” it was a boy.

Blaire danced around and was so excited to tell her friends that now she gets to be a big sister to both her little baby and a baby sister!

At my OBGYN’s office they had a second ultrasound tech come in and do a scan. She agreed she was 100% sure this baby is a girl. Their explanation for the wrong gender determination at 15 weeks was that it’s not always possible to tell correctly that early. Both males and females have a “nub” that develops into their male or female parts and that typically happens by 15 weeks. If the nub is still there, that can make your little lady appear to be a male, as can a well-placed umbilical cord. That 15 week ultrasound was a good 10-15 mins long. And yes, to me, when she said it was a boy I thought it also looked like a boy. There was no doubt in my mind that she was right. But, at our 20 week ultrasound there were three distinct lines. Found by two separate ultrasound techs.

I completely understand that some people may be mad (or upset, confused, etc.) but we are just so happy to be having another baby. We have one of each so we already have clothes, shoes, etc. for both. I hadn’t bought much for baby boy yet because we were so set on newborn-sized everything. Everything in the ultrasound looked perfect, our baby is healthy and we are just over the moon. It was definitely funny to make the phone call to our parents and siblings because they were all so in shock on the other end of the phone! lol! Whoever this sweet baby is, they are so, so loved.
