Nursing Must Haves

Before Blaire was born, I did nothing when it came to preparing to breastfeed. Okay… fine. I bought one nursing bra and one nursing tank top. Then called it good. I didn’t take the Breastfeeding Prep class through our hospital because it seemed like all anyone talked about how natural nursing was. Something that’s natural doesn’t really mandate a two hour class, does it?

Well… I had a tough time getting Blaire to latch. She lost more weight than is normal in our three nights at the hospital. To say it freaked me out is an understatement. The day we got home from the hospital I began pumping, almost exclusively. I always had a tough time with my supply. But I was able to nurse, while supplementing with formula, for 9 months. It was hard. It was exhausting. Pumping at work was terrible. But I did it. And when she hit 9 months old she just slowly, naturally weaned herself.

SO. To make things a little less stressful this time around I’ve done some prep. First, I know what to expect, so I think that helps. Second, I took the class! It was helpful to be reminded of the various holds, the best way to get baby to latch, etc. And third, I stocked up on things I know will help make nursing a little easier on me. So here we go… here’s my list of Nursing Must Haves.

Did I miss anything? Seamless bras are my favorite! They’re so comfortable. I just can’t do anything with an underwire. So far, nursing is going great this time around. I’m happy I was more prepared this time around.

What made/makes you more comfortable when nursing? Let me know in a Comment!

That’s a great list! I was nodding my head at each thing you listed! I’m currently nursing baby #3. And we love Covered Goods too.

You have lots of great items here! I love the bra and robe! I always include coconut oil and a nurselet in my essentials basket.

I had to use breast pads for the first six months of Lucy’s life. I was the leaking QUEEN. I still leak sometimes, almost 9 months later. Madness. All of these things are musts!

I just loved stretchy tank tops during those first few months! I was like you … no classes or anything and then it didn’t work out so naturally!
