If you had asked me while I was pregnant with Blaire what I would be most passionate about when it came to childcare, I would have probably said something like creating fun, educational activities daily instead of letting my child watch tv… or I am never letting my child eat anything that’s not organic. Well, both of these would have been wrong. Turns out pregnant Trista was a little delusional about her time management skills. Anyways… I don’t think I would have ever guessed that I’d be most passionate about car seat safety. After learning that 3 out of 4 car seats are installed incorrectly, I realized I needed to pay attention to using a car seat safely. Buckling your child into his/her seat, or installing the seat may seem easy or self-explanatory — turns out it’s not.

According to a study by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 73% of car seats are installed incorrectly! That’s INSANE. But I get it. It doesn’t seem THAT hard to install a car seat. And it doesn’t seem like it should be THAT hard to buckle a child into said car seat. I didn’t think it would be. I didn’t realize the placement of a chest clip or the angle of the car seat could easily be the different between life and death if we were ever in an accident.

I’ll admit I didn’t read through our infant car seat’s safety manual. We looked at the installation page – saw where to thread the buckle through and did it. It seemed simple enough. It wasn’t until I saw an image shared on Facebook stating a child shouldn’t wear a thick jacket/coat in their car seat that I realized there may be more to car seat safety than I originally thought. I joined the Car Seats for the Littles Facebook Group and my passion for carseat safety was born.

Since so many car seats are installed correctly, I love that car seat manufacturers are making it easier to install your car seat. The Britax Advocate ClickTight ARB Convertible Car Seat is amazing! With the Click Tight technology, it’s so easy install. The seat lifts up, so you have easy access to the seat belt path. You just thread it through and close the seat. You’ll hear a click! when it’s latched. It’s as easy as that.

I really love the Anti-Rebound Bar. It’s something our other seats haven’t had. It minimizes forces associated with crashes by stabilizing the car seat when installed rear-facing. And speaking of rear-facing, as you can see, Blaire is three and is still rear-facing. While you shouldn’t turn your child before age two, it is safer to keep them rear-facing until age four. So our goal is to make it to age four. She’s about 32lbs right now and this seat rear-faces up to 40lbs. As you can tell, she doesn’t mind it one bit. The 14-position, quick-adjust harness makes it easy to adjust the straps as your child grows, without any re-threading. Easy peasy.

Do you use Britax car seats car seats? Have you tried their easy-to-install Click Tight technology?

LOVE Britax and ERF. It’s crazy that so many seats are installed incorrectly but I believe it :(
