We all know the holidays can be super stressful, especially for parents. But, really, why do we do this to ourselves every. single. year? We (I) know the holidays are coming. We (I) wait until the last minute to make lists for family members, to purchases gifts for everyone, and I literally wait until Christmas Eve to wrap them. I see other people’s pictures of their wrapped gifts under their trees for weeks and it’s so pretty! I want that to be me. So why, why not let it be me this year? Well, it’s going to be. And I want to share you with some tips to help yourself de-stress this holiday season.
1| Plan ahead.
You know the holidays are coming. Beat the crowds, start your shopping early. Yes, the grocery store is INSANE the day before Thanksgiving, so beat that crazy rush. Do your shopping the Monday before. Prep any dishes you can ahead of time, whether you’re the one serving the entire meal, or you’re “just” brining a side. Come November we all have those friends who say “I just bought my last Christmas gift. How about you? How many more do you have on your list to buy?” Instead of hating them, be them. Bonus if you get your outdoor Christmas lights up while it’s still semi-warm outside. Hey, you don’t have to turn them on until after Thanksgiving. But knowing they’re out there will ease some of your holiday anxiety.
2| Get festive.
Making our home festive definitely helps get me into the holiday spirit. I LOVE decorating for fall. Give me all of the pumpkins. All of the plants. Having plants in your home give you SO many benefits — reducing carbon dioxide levels, increasing humidity (so crucial in these dry winter months), reducing airborne dust levels and reducing levels of air pollutants. So get out, buy some pretty plants for your home and feel the stress melt away. And, if you aren’t hosting the holiday shenanigans, grab one for the hostess. Decorate for holidays whenever you want. If it makes you happy to decorate early, then do it!
3| Use your family time to unwind and relax.
Everyone unwinds a different way, for us, we love to get outside. We love going for walks when it’s at all possible in with the cooler weather we get here in the midwest. When it’s too cold, we love to drive around and look at Christmas lights. So get outside, go for a walk, go to an indoor playground, see a movie, check out the holiday lights, whatever you have to do to soak in this special time with your family, do it. It is the most magical time of the year and seeing it all through your children’s eyes really is the best part. So taking time to slow down your normal day-to-day routine to squeeze in a little extra quality time is sure to help you destress.
This Evenflo Pivot Travel System is the best. It makes running errands, shopping and strolling super easy and convenient. I love that we can just snap Ben’s carseat into it while we’re out and about. The infant carrier seat is SO much lighter than any others we’ve used, which is SO nice when you’re hauling around an 18lb baby.
The stroller has three different modes and has a weight limit of 50lbs, so even Blaire can still ride in it, which she loves because I don’t think she ever wants to outgrow riding in the stroller, lol! It handles really well and it super easy to fold and open. And, oh my gosh, the basket underneath is giant. GIANT. It’s larger and easier to access than any other single stroller we’ve ever had.
You know I’m a freak when it comes to car seat safety.
