Mother’s Day Questions

May 10, 2017

I’ve seen these Mother’s Day questions floating around Facebook and since my answers would be super long, I figured it’d make a better blog post. And, since I haven’t shared Ben’s birth story yet (you can read Blaire’s here) some of this information, and some pictures are things I’ve never shared before!

Motherhood is seriously mind blowing. You spend your days googling things you never thought you’d type, stepping on tiny toys and stressing about things like whether your child should be drinking less juice and more milk.

1| Did you have an epidural?
With Blaire I had a spinal, since it was a C Section. Only took about 20 tries to get it in though… not fun. With Ben, I had an epidural FO SHO. I was super nervous about it because 1| a needle 2| a needle in my spine 3| it took so many tries with the spinal. But it was actually relatively painless (compared to the contractions I was having) and she was able to get it in on the first try.

2| Was the father in the room? Of course! Jason wasn’t allowed in the operating room while they prepped me for surgery, but he was in there once the surgery started. With Ben it was just him and the nurse for the few hours I was pushing.

3| Were you induced? Nope.

4| Did you find out the sex? Yes! With Blaire we found out at 20 weeks. With Ben, we went to Chicago for an ultrasound at 15 weeks.

6| Did you deliver early or late? Blaire was a scheduled C Section at 39w 1d. Ben was born at 38w 5d.

7| Did you have morning sickness? Yes! I had it a few weeks longer with Ben than I did with Blaire. But with both of them I just felt sick ALL THE TIME. I rarely ever actually got sick.

8| What did you crave? candy, smoothies, strawberry lemonade (specifically theEvolution Cold-Pressed Strawberry Lemonade), cereal, tacos, pizza, fountain cherry pepsi… the list goes on and on and on.

9| How many pounds did you gain? Just under 20lbs with both of them.

10| What was the sex of the baby? A girl and then a boy.

11| Did you have complications? Only the problem with the spinal block before my C Section. The closest to a complication would be Blaire being frank breech, which resulted in her having to be delivered via c section.

12| How many hours were you in labor? No labor with Blaire. I was in “active labor” with Ben for about 9 hours before he was born.

13| How much did your baby weigh? Blaire was 7lbs 2oz, 18.5″ and Ben was 7lbs 4oz and 20″… except he has 19.5″ at his doctors appointments so… I’ll assume they weren’t quite right when they were measuring him bright and early at 4AM.

14| What did you name the baby? Blaire Elizabeth and Benjamin Robert.

15| How old is your baby today? Blaire is 3 and Ben is 7 weeks!

I’ve not a mom but I just LOVE hearing about birth experiences! It’s always interesting to hear about moms who had two completely different experiences too. Both of your babies are so beautiful. Thanks for sharing!
