Learning with KidloLand

October 24, 2016

Blaire playing KidloLandI love that Blaire plays with our iPad and our phones. I embrace technology. I have worked digital/e-commerce/web for the past 6 years and I just don’t think there is any reason for me to teach Blaire not to embrace technology herself. That said, there’s a difference between watching creepy Kids YouTube videos of people playing with toys (this is seriously a thing and kids LOVE it) and playing fun, interactive games that are actually teaching her numbers, letters and problem solving.

A few months ago, KidloLand asked if we had heard of their app and if we’d be interested in trying it out. While this hasn’t been my most timely collaboration, it has been a super fun one! I just didn’t think playing a game for a week or two would be a real indication of whether or not Blaire was actually learning from it.

Flashcards, crayons and puzzles all have their place in our home and we love them. They’re hands-on and they’re a fun way to spend time with Blaire while also helping her learn. Although, at two and a half, almost everything a child does during their day is helping them learn. But there are just some times when hauling around physical puzzles pieces or crayons isn’t convenient, and at those times, I prefer to let Blaire play on her iPad. While there are plenty of times she’s happy to watch Doc McStuffins or PJ Masks, there are just as many times when she wants to play a game or listen to songs.

I think our favorite part of KidloLand is the phonics area. There’s a section for each letter and each section has four parts and one song. Blaire loves to sing along and sound out each of the words. These little parts have color matching, sorting, coloring and a lot more. Usually when she asks me to play KidloLand, she says Mom! I want to play the a is for apple, a-a-a-apple game!

There are endless areas in this app. There are nursery rhymes, songs and so. many. games. We have the game on both her iPad and my iPhone so we always have it handy. I love that she’s learning letters, numbers and colors, but to her she’s just playing fun games!

I was compensated with a free subscription to KidloLand. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Our little one is still very young for this and not very interested in technology but when she is we will definitely be checking it out!

This is great! We embrace technology in this house too, but had to get rid of YouTube kids because the content is awful! So horrifying! This app looks amazing and so educational!

I finally deleted the Kids YouTube app this weekend. I just could not handle listening to those weird videos anymore. So I’m glad I’m not the only one!
