If you’re a mom, you know there’s nothing more rewarding than motherhood. There’s nothing more rewarding, more exhausting, more terrifying, more exciting, more draining than being a mother. Being a mother is, quite simply, the hardest thing you will ever do.
Being pregnant in 2016, for a few months in 2017, then having a newborn… trying to balance two kids, work, being a wife, laundry, errands, everything! It was just overwhelming and my self-care was not a priority and basically non-existent. SO, 2018 is going to be the year of taking care of myself!
Here’s how I plan to do it:
1| Wash your face. Let’s start easy. You can’t get easier than this one. And, let’s be honest, since becoming a mom, I’ve developed the bad habit of just falling into bed at night. And my skin shows it!
2| Find a good skincare routine. Your skin deserves it! Your hormones are a roller coaster during pregnancy and postpartum.
3| Paint your nails. You don’t need to go for a fancy manicure, even just painting your nails (during naptime or some other time when you won’t have to pick up a baby) can instantly life your mood and help you feel more put together.
4| Put on a facemask. If you’re not taking great care of your skin (GUILTY.) a facemake is an easy way to treat your skin to some care.
5| Get your hair done. While this one is probably the most time-consuming, at least it’s the one you do the least. Whether you go every 6 weeks like clockwork, or go three months (like me!) between getting your hair done, try to make it about you. Go alone. My salon always offers yummy drinks. Relax and enjoy this little bit of time away!
6| Read a book. Reading a book is the perfect way to escape. I have a few religious books I read off and on, and then I am currently in the middle of Present Over Perfect and A Simplified Life. Bonus points if you actually finish a book! haha
7| Get active. I have NEVER liked working out. The last time I stuck to a consistent workout routine was before our wedding (winter 2012/2013) and before that, I really never had. So, I have only worked out here or there since giving birth to Blaire.
8| Spend time with friends. As a mom, it can be SO hard to find friends. So cherish the friends you do have. And spend time together! Even if it’s just a trip to Target without the kiddos. Ahhhh, heaven.
9| Take a nap. I think this is self-explanatory. This is a great way to relax and catch up on the sleep you’re missing from those 10 times your kids have you up at night.
How do you take care of yourself as a mama? I’d love to hear your ideas!
